Today marks the 30th anniversary of the Dayton Peace Agreement, a key moment in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s history. The agreement has served as a foundation for peace, confirming the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity over the past thirty years.
The United States reiterated its ongoing support for stability and security in Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as the broader Western Balkans region. According to an official statement, "The United States remains steadfast in its commitment to support stability and security in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Western Balkans. We work closely with Bosnia and Herzegovina’s leaders to reinforce Dayton and encourage the pursuit of local solutions that benefit all constituent peoples."
Addressing citizens directly, U.S. officials said, "To the peoples of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the United States values your resilience and determination. We stand with you in your efforts to promote peace and stability, and to create a more prosperous future for all. Thank you."
The Dayton Peace Agreement was signed in 1995, ending years of conflict in Bosnia and Herzegovina by establishing a framework for governance that has since maintained relative peace.
