Planning is underway for the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, which will be celebrated on July 4, 2026. A year-long series of events and activities is being organized across the United States to mark this milestone. The celebrations aim to encourage a renewed interest in American history, highlight the country's landscape, and promote a spirit of adventure and innovation.

Communities nationwide—including federal, state, and local governments, schools, nonprofits, businesses, and citizens—are invited to participate in these commemorations.

The schedule includes several events in Germany organized by U.S. consular districts. In August 2025, there will be a soccer match between Philadelphia Union and Eintracht Frankfurt on August 4 in Frankfurt, followed by a Frankfurt Galaxy game on August 6.

In September 2025, an alumni BBQ for the Hessen–Wisconsin exchange is planned for September 17 in Frankfurt (invite only). On September 19, Munich will host the America250 “Our Shared Journey” kickoff event. Oldenburg will see the opening night of the “USA: Begegnungen” Festival on September 20 with cultural performances and remarks from local officials. The festival runs from September 21 to November 26 and features live music, expert speakers, art exhibitions, scientific exchanges, as well as U.S.-themed travel and culinary promotions.

Other notable events include German-American Friendship Day celebrations in Stuttgart and Frankfurt (invite only) later in September. October brings German Unity Day festivities in Saarbrücken on October 3; a theater performance celebrating America250 and Hamburg-Chicago’s sister city relationship at Hamburg’s English Theater on October 6; a consular compound anniversary on October 10; and Oldenburg–USA Business Day on October 13.

In November, there will be a Thanksgiving celebration with AmCham Lower Saxony in Hannover.

Events continue into 2026 with ongoing special anniversary programs hosted by sister city committees and friendship circles. Dortmund begins its anniversary program in March. The German Fulbright Alumni Association marks its own milestone with its 40th anniversary event from June 19-21 in Dortmund. Independence Day celebrations are scheduled at all posts on July 4. From August 13-16, Düsseldorf will host the IFAF World Championship in Flag Football.

The list of planned activities is expected to be updated regularly as preparations continue for this historic occasion.
