Herschel Walker has been named United States Ambassador, bringing with him a background in sports, business, and public service. Walker first became known nationally as a running back at the University of Georgia, where he helped win the 1980 National Title and received the Heisman Trophy in 1982. His achievements in college football led to his induction into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1999.
Walker's professional athletic career started with the New Jersey Generals in the United States Football League (USFL) before he joined the NFL's Dallas Cowboys. He also competed as part of the U.S. Bobsled Team at the 1992 Winter Olympics and later participated professionally in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).
After his retirement from football, Walker founded Renaissance Man Food Services, moving into entrepreneurship within the food service industry.
Walker has been an advocate for mental health among members of the United States Armed Forces. In 2018, he was appointed to serve on the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition until 2022 and was inducted into the Horatio Alger Association that year. He was also a Republican candidate in Georgia’s 2022 U.S. Senate election.
Walker is married to Julie Walker and continues to be involved in business and civic activities. As ambassador working with the U.S. Mission to The Bahamas, "he is committed to strengthening people-to-people connections and supporting shared U.S.-Bahamas priorities."
