John McLean has been appointed as the Australia and New Zealand Banking Group's (ANZ) Country Head for the United States of America. He will report to Simon Ireland, ANZ Managing Director for International.
McLean has served in the acting role since April 2025. He has worked at ANZ for 18 years, including seven years as Head of Financial Institutions Group, North America, based in New York.
Simon Ireland commented on the appointment: “John is a seasoned banker and brings a strong foundation of client relationships and proven leadership to this Country Head role, which he has held in an acting capacity since April. After a global search, we knew he was the right person to guide our United States business into the next phase.
“The United States of America has been an important part of ANZ’s international network since 1968. Our New York-based team supports trade and investment flows between clients in America with Australia, New Zealand and Asia.
“I’m confident John is the right person to lead our business in the United States, deepening our relationships with key corporate and multinational clients, as well as local and international banks and financial institutions,” Mr Ireland said.
