Siemens has partnered with the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation (SPK) to create a digital version of the Pergamon Altar, located at the Pergamon Museum on Berlin's Museum Island. This initiative will allow users to explore the monument in a three-dimensional interactive environment before its physical reopening in 2027.
The project involves integrating hundreds of thousands of detailed photographs into a virtual application, offering an immersive experience for users. The digital presentation includes both the Gigantomachy Frieze—a more than 110-meter-long relief depicting the mythical battle between gods and giants—and the Telephos Frieze, which tells the founding story of Pergamon and its ruling Attalid dynasty.
Cedrik Neike, Member of the Managing Board of Siemens AG and CEO Digital Industries, said: “We’re turning digitalization into a time machine and bring antiquity into the virtual world! Together with the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation, we are digitizing the Pergamon Altar, a remarkable monument of human history. This is how a World Heritage Site becomes accessible: for everyone, anytime, anywhere.”
The interactive digital access is set to launch in 2026 and aims to provide new ways for people to engage with art and culture by enabling detailed exploration of features such as the giant frieze.
