BMO Commercial Bank's Treasury and Payment Solutions group has introduced new Payment APIs, aimed at allowing businesses in Canada and the United States to integrate real-time payment features into their Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, treasury platforms, and customer-facing applications. The initiative is designed to support faster transactions and facilitate embedded finance experiences.
The launch also includes access for developers to secure APIs, detailed documentation, and a production-grade sandbox through the BMO Developer Portal. This setup allows for streamlined building, testing, and deployment of cross-border payment solutions.
According to Derek Vernon, Head of North American Treasury and Payment Solutions at BMO: "This launch represents a pivotal step in modernizing payments and delivering scalable, embedded finance experiences. Our Payment APIs are designed to meet the evolving needs of our clients and partners, offering speed, transparency, and control across borders and platforms."
The new offerings allow businesses to embed BMO's payment services directly into their operational platforms. This integration is intended to reduce manual processes while speeding up transaction times. Developers are provided with tools for rapid development and deployment via the BMO Developer Portal. Additionally, a production-grade sandbox environment lets companies test cross-border payment flows securely before going live.
BMO Financial Group is recognized as the seventh largest bank in North America by assets as of July 31, 2025. The institution serves approximately 13 million customers across Canada, the United States, and select international markets.
