Macquarie Group, in partnership with MIT Solve, has expanded its Community Resilience Prize to include Australia and the Pacific Islands. The prize, which was first launched in Brazil ahead of the 30th UN Climate Conference (COP), will award up to A$1.5 million to as many as ten projects across Brazil, Australia, and the Pacific Islands that address climate change impacts while also providing training and employment opportunities.

The initiative seeks applications from organizations developing technology-enabled solutions that strengthen community resilience. Areas of focus include energy and grid resilience, water resource management, agriculture and food systems, infrastructure protection, disaster preparedness, and other sectors critical for adapting to climate change.

Applications will be evaluated based on their effectiveness in building climate resilience, workforce development potential, innovation, and anticipated impact. Winners will receive funding as well as access to a support program offering workshops, coaching sessions, resources in kind, and mentorship from Macquarie employees. Applications are open online through MIT Solve’s website until February 25, 2026.

Lisa George, Global Head of the Macquarie Group Foundation said: “Globally, and particularly in the Australia and Pacific Islands, adaptation and resilience solutions are becoming increasingly important, not just for managing risk – they’re operational priorities and growth opportunities that can help to future proof infrastructure, agriculture, industry and communities.”

She added: “Through this prize we are proud to be supporting practical solutions that are solving climate-related issues creating employment and building vital skills. Together we can deliver lasting impact and ensure a stronger more resilient future for all.”

Winners of the Macquarie Community Resilience Prize will be announced in May 2026.

Hala Hanna, Executive Director of MIT Solve said: "MIT Solve's mission is to identify the world's most promising entrepreneurs tackling critical challenges and help them scale. The Macquarie Community Resilience Prize exemplifies the power of strategic partnership in addressing those challenges unlocking climate resilience solutions across Brazil Australia and the Pacific Islands. Together we're investing in both the innovations and the people who will build more resilient communities for generations to come."

The prize is funded by Macquarie Group as part of its ongoing efforts to support community-based responses to climate change through partnerships with organizations such as MIT Solve.
