Eight U.S. technology companies are taking part in the Digital Transformation Summit 2025 held in Port Moresby from November 25 to 27. The participating firms—Amazon, Astranis, Cisco, Google, Governful, Oracle, Salesforce, and SpaceX—are sharing their expertise with Papua New Guinea (PNG) as part of efforts to advance the country's digital future.
The summit is organized by the PNG Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and brings together stakeholders from various sectors to discuss innovation and governance in digital transformation. According to the U.S. Embassy, this engagement supports commitments made under a Strategic Framework signed by Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau and Prime Minister Marape.
U.S. tech companies at the event are providing insights on topics such as undersea cables, artificial intelligence applications for government, infrastructure connectivity, and cybersecurity practices. The summit aims to highlight how building a digital economy with trusted suppliers can benefit PNG’s development and security.
A spokesperson noted that using reliable technology suppliers helps protect sensitive data: "From increased access to education and healthcare in rural areas, to peace of mind that sensitive personal or commercial information is safe with a trusted cloud infrastructure, the potential for development and business opportunities are endless with U.S. companies." The statement continued: "Using trusted suppliers for technology products is beneficial for companies, individuals, and governments to ensure reliability and performance where it counts, preventing cyber threats to save money, and ensure satisfied customers."
The summit also provides an opportunity for PNG businesses and government leaders to engage directly with U.S. delegates about strategies for investment in PNG’s economy and technical future. "Commercial diplomacy is central to U.S. foreign policy. At the summit, Papua New Guinean businesses and government leaders can discuss face to face with the U.S. delegation how to develop and lead strategies for U.S. investment in PNG’s own economy, cybersecurity and technical future," according to organizers.
Panel discussions at the event include representatives from Amazon and Oracle speaking on cloud services and data center hosting alongside local partners.
