Sri Lankan authorities have activated a Special Disaster Operations Room at Police Headquarters in response to Cyclone Ditwah, aiming to improve coordination and public safety across the country. The U.S. Embassy in Sri Lanka has advised American citizens affected by the cyclone to use the designated emergency contacts for assistance.

The police operations center can be reached at several phone numbers, including 011-2013051, 011-2027148, 011-2027149, 011-2472757, and 011-2430912. Inquiries can also be sent via email to Igp.opsroom@police.gov.lk. Additional contact numbers are available for district police divisions throughout Sri Lanka.

The U.S. Embassy remains open during its regular business hours from Monday through Friday, between 08:00 and 17:30.

U.S. citizens are encouraged to monitor local media and weather updates from the Sri Lanka Department of Meteorology, avoid travel to areas impacted by the storm when possible, secure loose items and seek shelter during severe weather conditions, follow instructions from local authorities, keep emergency supplies ready, ensure travel documents are current and accessible, and enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) for updates.

For further assistance or information, individuals may contact the U.S. Embassy in Sri Lanka by phone at +94-11-249-8500 or by email at ColomboACS@state.gov. More resources are available on the embassy’s website at https://lk.usembassy.gov.

U.S. citizens can also reach out to State Department Consular Affairs at 888-407-4747 or 202-501-4444 for additional support regarding their status in Sri Lanka.

Those seeking ongoing security updates are encouraged to enroll in STEP and follow embassy communications on Facebook and Twitter/X.
