Tropical Cyclone Senyar struck Aceh in North Sumatra on November 26, resulting in significant flooding and landslides. According to local authorities, at least 23 people have died, with dozens more missing. Tens of thousands of residents in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra have been displaced or otherwise affected.

Indonesia’s meteorological agency maintained a Category 1 tropical cyclone warning as of the morning of November 26. The agency also forecast very heavy to extreme rainfall for Aceh and North Sumatra provinces, while Riau and West Sumatra are expected to experience moderate to heavy rain. These conditions may lead to further flooding and landslides in northern Indonesia.

The U.S. Embassy in Jakarta advised: "Monitor the local news for updates, especially if you have air travel planned during this event. Notify friends and family of your safety. Avoid travel and other activities in North Sumatra. Have evacuation plans that do not rely on U.S. government assistance."

Residents were also encouraged to check information from the Indonesian Disaster Management Agency for further guidance.

Contact details for emergency assistance were provided by the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta, the U.S. Consulate General Surabaya, and the U.S. Consular Agency in Bali.

The embassy recommended following their official social media accounts for ongoing updates.
