Residents and travelers in the central and western states of Peninsular Malaysia have been advised to prepare for severe weather as Tropical Storm Senyar approaches. According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department, the storm is moving east-southeast into the Strait of Melaka at a speed of approximately 24 kilometers per hour. Heavy rain, strong winds, and possible flooding are expected from November 27 to November 29.
The areas likely to be most affected include Kedah, Penang, Perak, Pahang, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, and Johor.
The U.S. Embassy in Kuala Lumpur issued an alert advising people in these regions to take precautions. The embassy recommended that individuals "monitor local media for updates," "carry proper identification, including a U.S. passport with a current Malaysian visa," "have evacuation plans that do not rely on U.S. government assistance," "notify friends and family of your current location," and "check your email regularly for further alerts."
