Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine met with Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and her cabinet in Port of Spain to discuss regional security concerns and strengthen bilateral relations.

According to Joint Staff Spokesperson Joseph Holstead, "Today, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine met with Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and members of her cabinet to reaffirm the strong partnership between the United States and Trinidad and Tobago and discuss shared priorities for regional security and stability."

The meeting focused on issues impacting the Caribbean, such as illicit narcotics, arms trafficking, human trafficking, and activities by transnational criminal organizations. "Gen. The Chairman emphasized that close cooperation between the United States and Trinidad and Tobago directly contributes to safeguarding regional security," Holstead said.

During their discussion, Gen. Caine acknowledged Trinidad and Tobago’s role in advancing mutual objectives in the region. He also confirmed ongoing U.S. commitment to collaborating with Trinidad and Tobago on addressing common threats. "Gen. Caine expressed appreciation for Trinidad and Tobago’s continued leadership and partnership in advancing mutual objectives and reaffirmed that the United States remains committed to working closely with Trinidad and Tobago to address shared threats and deepen collaboration across the Caribbean," Holstead added.
