Professor Owen Guy of Swansea University has received the SEMI Academia Impact Award at SEMICON Europa 2025 in Munich, Germany. The award recognizes individuals whose work connects scientific excellence with practical impact within the semiconductor sector.
Professor Guy serves as Director of the Centre for Nanohealth and is part of the Centre for Integrative Semiconductor Materials (CISM) at Swansea University. He has contributed to collaborative initiatives such as the SEMI Talent Forums and ChipQuest Challenge, and participates in European projects focused on silicon carbide, graphene, and advanced manufacturing.
“I’m deeply honoured to receive the SEMI Academia Impact Award. This recognition reflects the collective effort of our community in advancing semiconductor education, outreach and skills—from pioneering research to inspiring the next generation of semiconductor talent. I’m proud of our work with SEMI and our role in shaping Europe’s innovation landscape,” said Professor Guy.
Swansea University leads nationally in semiconductor research through its £29.9 million CISM facility at Bay Campus. The center features advanced cleanrooms, materials growth laboratories, and device packaging capabilities. In collaboration with industry partners, CISM supports advancements in quantum devices, sensors, and energy systems.
Laith Altimime, President of SEMI Europe, commented on Professor Guy’s achievements: “Europe’s semiconductor resilience relies on visionary leaders like Professor Guy, who not only advance technology but also cultivate the talent that will carry our industry forward.
“His dedication to leadership, mentorship, and collaboration reflects the qualities Europe needs to strengthen its talent pipeline and global competitiveness. We are proud to honour a mentor who continues to inspire the next generation of semiconductor leaders.”
