The U.S. Embassy in Algiers has announced the opening of the Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program competition for Algerian scholars for the 2025-2026 academic year. This program offers Algerian post-doctoral researchers and lecturers an opportunity to spend three to six months at a university in the United States.

Applicants must be citizens of Algeria, hold a Ph.D. or equivalent professional experience, and demonstrate proficiency in English suitable for their proposed research projects. They must also currently be affiliated with a university or research institution in Algeria. The application requires submission of a detailed project statement, curriculum vitae, three letters of reference, bibliography, letter of invitation from a U.S. institution, copies of doctoral degree and transcripts, and passport bio page. All documents not originally in English must be translated by a sworn translator.

"Special preference will be given to candidates who have the capacity and commitment to take full advantage of a program of research at a U.S. institution and who are willing to share their experience and knowledge after returning to Algeria," according to the announcement. "The Fulbright experience should be of value not only to the scholar but also to the scholar’s home university – its students and faculty – as well as to the host U.S. institution. Fulbright scholars serve as cultural ambassadors and should be prepared to speak about their country, culture, and research to academic and community groups."

Applications that show strong cross-cultural engagement will receive preference. Grants are not intended for attending conferences, completing dissertations, traveling between multiple institutions, or clinical medical research involving patient contact.

The deadline for submitting online applications is December 20, 2025. Incomplete or late applications will not be reviewed. The embassy notes that due to high application volume, only those selected for interviews will be contacted.
