U.S. citizens in Honduras have been advised to remain vigilant during the upcoming national elections scheduled for Sunday, November 30, 2025. The U.S. Embassy in Tegucigalpa issued an alert noting that a significant police and military presence is expected throughout the country, particularly near polling sites and voting centers, which are frequently located in schools and government buildings.
The embassy cautioned that demonstrations or large gatherings could occur with little or no warning. Such events are more likely near government buildings and polling locations but can happen anywhere. Road closures and traffic disruptions may also take place on election day.
In its advisory, the embassy provided several recommendations for U.S. citizens residing in or traveling through Honduras during this period: "Register in STEP and encourage others to do the same to receive updated information from the U.S. Embassy. Be aware of your surroundings. Carry proper identification at all times. Have alternative transportation routes in mind. Avoid crowds and demonstrations. Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings. Monitor local media and U.S. Embassy Instagram, Facebook and X pages for updates. Be prepared to adjust your plans. Keep a low profile. Review your personal security plan. Have travel documents and identification up to date and easily accessible."
The embassy also emphasized the importance of having a contingency plan for emergencies while abroad: "U.S. citizens who travel abroad should always have a contingency plan for emergencies." The embassy encouraged reviewing resources such as the Traveler’s Checklist.
