Amazon has announced that independent sellers have generated more than $2.5 trillion in cumulative sales over the past 25 years. These sellers now represent over 60% of sales in its store and have contributed to job growth for U.S. sellers, according to a company blog post.

The e-commerce giant opened its platform to independent sellers in 2000, allowing entrepreneurs to list products alongside Amazon's own retail offerings. Over the years, this partnership has evolved with the introduction of new tools, logistics services, and technology aimed at helping sellers expand their businesses. Amazon describes this collaboration as one of the most transformative developments in retail.

Independent sellers on Amazon have generated significant economic activity, accounting for over 60% of physical product sales on the platform worldwide. This underscores the substantial impact third-party businesses have had within Amazon's ecosystem.

In 2024, these independent sellers employed over 2 million people across the United States. According to Amazon, these jobs were linked to more than $100 billion in wages for U.S. employees, highlighting the important role seller businesses play in supporting local and regional economies.

Amazon is a global technology and e-commerce company headquartered in Seattle, Washington.
