The United States has announced that Special Envoy for South and Central Asia, Ambassador Sergio Gor, will act as the U.S. co-chair of the newly formed U.S.–Uzbekistan Business and Investment Council. This council aims to strengthen economic ties between the two countries by promoting business and investment opportunities.
Ambassador Gor will work alongside Saida Mirziyoyeva, Head of the Presidential Administration of Uzbekistan. According to the announcement, his appointment "reflects President Trump’s commitment to strengthening America’s economic leadership, expanding access for U.S. companies, and ensuring that partnerships abroad deliver real benefits for the American people."
The council's objectives include increasing investment and export opportunities between the United States and Uzbekistan. It also plans to focus on sectors such as information technology and digital innovation to allow greater participation from U.S. technology firms and professionals. The initiative is intended to promote fair competition for U.S. exporters.
Officials stated that "the Council will focus on expanding U.S. and Uzbekistani investment and export opportunities, opening high-growth sectors—especially IT and digital innovation—to U.S. technology and talent; and promoting a level playing field for U.S. exporters."
President Mirziyoyev’s recent visit to Washington during the November 4–6 C5+1 Summit was cited as evidence of growing momentum in bilateral relations. The establishment of this council is expected to build upon that progress.
"The new Business and Investment Council will build on this progress and help ensure America continues to grow stronger, safer, and more prosperous through strategic economic engagement," according to officials.
