The U.S. Embassy in Bridgetown has issued a security alert for American citizens in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Saint Lucia ahead of their upcoming general elections. The elections are scheduled for November 27 in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and December 1 in Saint Lucia.

The embassy warns that political rallies, demonstrations, and other election-related events may take place around these dates. While most gatherings are expected to remain peaceful, officials caution that some could become unpredictable and lead to disruptions.

In its statement, the embassy advises: "Avoid large gatherings, political rallies, and demonstrations. Monitor local media for updates on election-related events and potential disruptions. Expect increased security presence and traffic delays in population centers, particularly near government buildings, polling stations, and public squares. Be aware of the potential for curfews or other restrictions imposed by local authorities."

U.S. citizens are encouraged to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive timely information and alerts as well as facilitate assistance if needed during emergencies overseas.

For emergency assistance, Americans can contact the U.S. Embassy Bridgetown at Wildey Business Park in St. Michael, Barbados by calling 1-246-227-4000 or emailing BridgetownACS@state.gov. Non-emergency information is also available through the embassy's website at https://bb.usembassy.gov/ or via their social media channels on Twitter and Facebook.

Further support is available from the State Department’s Bureau of Consular Affairs at 1-888-407-4747 from the United States and Canada or 1-202-501-4444 from other countries.

The embassy also recommends that travelers review resources such as Ready.Gov for guidance on emergency preparedness.
