Sinopec Qingdao Refining & Chemical’s project, “Empowering the ‘Oriental Hydrogen Island’ to Create a New Zero-Carbon Benchmark,” has been included in the “2025 Case Studies on Corporate (Industrial Park) Climate Action.” The announcement was made during the 30th Conference of the Parties (COP30) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. The Center for Environmental Education and Communications of China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment, together with the C Team, released this selection.

The featured case highlights Sinopec Qingdao Refining & Chemical’s advances in hydrogen energy development. According to the company, these include China’s first factory-level pilot project for seawater hydrogen production and its first floating photovoltaic industrial power station operating entirely in a seawater environment.

Sinopec Qingdao Refining & Chemical has also been certified as China’s first “carbon-neutral” hydrogen refueling station. The facility produces 2,300 tonnes of hydrogen annually for fuel cells and serves as the only hydrogen supply center for fuel cells in Jiaodong. This region has been chosen for a national demonstration project called “Hydrogen into Every Household.”

The company stated that its efforts serve as an example for traditional energy enterprises seeking green and low-carbon transformation.
