The U.S. Embassy in Tunis has announced that applications are now open for the Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI) Tomorrow’s Leaders Program. This program offers undergraduate scholarships to accomplished Tunisian students who wish to earn bachelor’s degrees at American universities located in the Middle East and North Africa.
According to the embassy, the program aims to support academically qualified students who may not otherwise have the financial means to pursue an American-style higher education. The scholarship covers tuition and fees, university housing, a monthly stipend, insurance, textbook allowances, and other related expenses. Students selected for the program may also be eligible for a semester of study abroad in the United States.
"For over 19 years, the MEPI Tomorrow’s Leaders Program, funded by the U.S. Department of State, has partnered with premier American universities in the region, including the American University in Cairo, the American University of Beirut, and the Lebanese American University. In addition to their notable academic work, Tomorrow’s Leaders participate in exciting internships, civic-engagement activities, and enrichment workshops where they apply their knowledge to real-world settings, and join a vibrant community that offers a comprehensive support system, including mentorship and personal development initiatives. Upon graduation, participants join a network of over 1,900 program alumni serving as leaders across the MENA region," stated program organizers.
Eligibility requirements include Tunisian citizenship or nationality (American citizens or U.S. Legal Permanent Residents are not eligible), strong academic credentials, proficiency in English, maturity and leadership potential, readiness to begin studies in August or September 2026, and demonstration of financial need according to MEPI and host university policies.
Applications must be submitted by November 25, 2025. More information about eligibility criteria and application procedures can be found on https://www.tomorrowsleadersprogram.org/.
