Keep Britain Tidy has recognized Swansea University's Singleton Campus as one of its People’s Choice award winners, following a national vote. This recognition comes after the campus received the Green Flag Award earlier in the year, which acknowledges high-quality and well-managed green spaces.

The university's grounds staff maintain gardens and shared areas at both Singleton and Bay campuses for the benefit of staff, students, and the wider community. Their conservation efforts include updating bug hotels and bird boxes, creating vegetable growing areas, planting wildflowers and fruit trees, and sharing expertise with local schoolchildren.

Michelle Dene, Head of Campus Operations, said: “We are absolutely thrilled that our Singleton Park Campus has been voted one of the UK’s top ten Green Flag parks. This is a testament to the dedication of our Grounds, Sustainability and Operational teams and volunteers who work tirelessly, in all weathers, to maintain and improve this beautiful outdoor space for everyone to enjoy.

“Spaces like these are vital for our students, staff and communities, and we’re proud to see that our efforts have been appreciated by so many people.”

This year saw a record 2,250 parks and green spaces across the UK receive Green Flag Awards. Swansea University’s Singleton Campus was among ten sites selected for the People’s Choice awards.

Paul Todd MBE, Green Flag Award manager at Keep Britain Tidy said: “The People’s Choice awards are our way of helping the public recognise the hard work done by the thousands of parks staff and volunteers up and down the country.

“Swansea University and the other nine winning sites represent some of the UK’s hardest working individuals and groups working within our highest quality parks – and this has clearly been recognised and appreciated by the public.”

Parks offer important benefits such as safe places for exercise, play, relaxation, supporting wildlife habitats, and contributing to climate change resilience.
