The U.S. Department of State announced the designation of Antifa Ost, a group based in Germany, and three other violent Antifa organizations located in Italy and Greece as Specially Designated Global Terrorists. The move will also list all four groups as Foreign Terrorist Organizations starting November 20, 2025.

According to the State Department, this action is part of an ongoing effort to counter what it describes as Antifa’s campaign of political violence. The department stated that these designations are in line with President Trump’s National Security Presidential Memorandum-7, which aims to disrupt networks and organizations that use violence and terrorism under the banner of “anti-fascism” to undermine democratic institutions and fundamental rights.

The groups identified are said to adhere to revolutionary anarchist or Marxist ideologies, including anti-Americanism, anti-capitalism, and anti-Christianity. The statement claims these beliefs have been used by the groups to incite or justify violent acts both within their home countries and abroad.

A spokesperson for the Department of State said: "The United States will continue using all available tools to protect our national security and public safety and will deny funding and resources to terrorists, including targeting other Antifa groups across the globe."

Further details about the announcement can be found on the Department of State’s fact sheet.
