The Samoa Ministry of Health has issued a Special Travel Advisory that updates entry requirements for travelers in response to a recent rise in measles cases. The advisory, effective November 3, 2025, applies to all individuals entering Samoa.
According to the new guidance, all travelers aged 12 months and older are strongly advised to receive at least one dose of a measles-containing vaccine no later than 14 days before arriving in Samoa. Infants under 12 months and pregnant mothers are exempt from this requirement.
Travelers who show symptoms associated with measles—including fever, dry cough, red or watery eyes, runny nose, or a blotchy rash—are urged to postpone travel until they have fully recovered. Those displaying signs of measles upon arrival may be assessed and detained as needed under public health regulations.
Travelers should carry valid proof of measles immunization. Electronic vaccination certificates stored on mobile devices are accepted if they include a verifiable QR code for inspection by border or health authorities.
The U.S. Embassy in Apia advises travelers to keep their documents accessible and avoid contact with sick individuals. Travelers can find more information on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Travelers Health Page or by contacting the CDC directly at 800-232-4636 or 404-639-3534. For local information, the Samoa Ministry of Health can be reached at +685(68100) or via email at enquiries@health.gov.ws.
The embassy also recommends enrolling in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive alerts and following official channels on Facebook and X for updates.
