Morgan Stanley has announced the winners of its 2025 Code for Good Montreal hackathon, an event aimed at supporting the local nonprofit organization Bouclier d’Athéna.

The annual Code for Good hackathon gives students a chance to work with Morgan Stanley technologists and apply their skills to assist local nonprofits. Nearly 100 university students teamed up with 35 technology experts from Morgan Stanley to develop nine prototype applications for evaluation.

David Cardon, co-head of Morgan Stanley Montreal, said, "The Code for Good event allows the next generation of technologists to solve challenges for local nonprofits alongside seasoned mentors and innovators from Morgan Stanley. We are fortunate to collaborate with Bouclier d’Athéna to deliver these prototypes and look forward to seeing our technology experts work closely with the organization to turn solutions into finished products."

This year’s challenge asked teams to design a donation experience that shows donors the real impact of their contributions and encourages long-term support. The winning solution is “Athena Paths,” a multilingual fundraising platform that personalizes donor experiences. It includes features allowing donors to track their donations’ progress through updates until completion. The team behind Athena Paths consists of students from McGill University, Polytechnique Montréal, and Université de Montréal.

Morgan Stanley’s technology experts will now help turn this prototype into an application for Bouclier d’Athéna through the firm’s Technology Changemakers program. This volunteer initiative involves designing solutions that help nonprofits increase their impact.

Melpa Kamateros, executive director of Bouclier d’Athéna, stated, "The innovative technical solutions developed by Code for Good participants have opened several doors that will help us better serve our supporters. With Morgan Stanley's help, we are fostering innovations that strengthen community engagement and lay the groundwork for lasting impact."

Each year, more than 660 Morgan Stanley experts mentor hundreds of student participants in five cities worldwide as part of Code for Good. Since 2021, the company has supported eight Montreal nonprofits through these hackathons.
