U.S. citizens planning to travel to Bolivia are still required to obtain a visa, despite recent statements from the Bolivian government about its intention to remove this requirement for tourism and business visits. The change has not yet been implemented, and travelers must continue to follow existing procedures.
Currently, U.S. citizens can secure a Bolivian tourist visa either upon arrival at any land or airport port of entry or in advance at Bolivian embassies and consulates in the United States. The U.S. Embassy in Bolivia has advised that it will provide updates when there are changes to these requirements.
The embassy recommends that travelers review the latest information on Bolivian tourist visa requirements by visiting travel.state.gov.
Travelers are also encouraged to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive security updates and other important information during their stay.
For assistance, the U.S. Embassy in La Paz can be contacted at +(591) (2) 216-8000 or via email at ConsularLaPazACS@state.gov. Additional resources are available through the State Department’s Consular Affairs division.
