Alexander Schmitt has been appointed as the new Chief Procurement Officer and member of the Executive Board at PowerCo SE, effective November 18, 2025. The appointment was confirmed by the Supervisory Board of PowerCo SE.
Schmitt comes from Anglo-American in London, where he served as Chief Marketing Officer and was responsible for customer business. In his new role at PowerCo SE, he will oversee procurement of raw materials, components, equipment, supplier management, and value engineering. He replaces Jörg Teichmann, who is stepping down by mutual agreement to take on a new position within the Volkswagen Group.
“With Alexander Schmitt, we have been able to win an absolute top expert in the raw materials sector. He has many years of international experience in the raw materials business and knows the industry in every detail. Under his leadership, we will continue to expand and strengthen PowerCo's global supplier network,” said Thomas Schmall, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of PowerCo SE. “At the same time, I would like to thank Jörg Teichmann. He has fundamentally built up the procurement department and established PowerCo as a relevant player in the global raw materials business. By establishing a complete battery supply chain from mine to cell, he has played a key role in shaping PowerCo's ramp-up phase and laid a key foundation for the company's long-term success.”
Schmitt joined Anglo-American in 2010 and led its customer business as Executive Head of Marketing and Chief Marketing Officer since 2014. Before that, he worked at Boston Consulting Group on major mining and raw materials projects. He holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration and Engineering from TU Darmstadt and a PhD from Otto Beisheim School of Management.
Teichmann had been building up PowerCo SE’s procurement department since 2022 after holding various leadership roles at Volkswagen Group, BMW Group, and ZF Friedrichshafen AG.
