The section is focused on promoting reforms within United Nations operations and budgets, aiming to make the organization more effective, transparent, and accountable.
A spokesperson from MEPA stated, "We actively promote reforms to UN operations and budgets to make the UN more effective, transparent, and accountable, and advocate for strong governance of these organizations so the UN can fulfill its potential."
The team is involved with ensuring that international institutions maintain a reliable, open, and secure internet environment while supporting ongoing innovation in technology. In addition, MEPA collaborates with UN organizations that gather weather and climate data which are used by various U.S. sectors such as agriculture, aviation, shipping, energy, and defense.
MEPA also plays a role in global health issues by promoting American health innovation and working to ensure that infectious disease outbreaks can be contained before reaching the United States. "Our team advances a range of global health issues, promoting American health innovation and ensuring the United States and its partners can contain infectious disease outbreaks before they reach U.S. shores," according to MEPA.
Political and human rights issues are monitored closely by MEPA as well. The team aims to protect fundamental freedoms for American citizens while defending national sovereignty. They also counter malign influence within the UN system and advocate for peaceful conflict resolution.
Supporting American workers is another priority for MEPA through the promotion of international norms in technology and trade that align with U.S. interests. Efforts are made to advance intellectual property rights protection worldwide in order to safeguard American innovation. The team engages with American experts conducting research at the forefront of science.
Additionally, MEPA encourages employment opportunities for U.S. citizens at both the UN and other international bodies.
MEPA also helps build public-private relationships intended to expand access for Americans into international markets.
