The United States Mission to the United Nations has expressed approval following a significant vote in the UN Security Council supporting a resolution aimed at advancing peace and stability in Gaza. According to a spokesperson for the U.S. Mission, this development represents progress toward lasting peace in Gaza and broader regional stability.
"Today’s action marks a meaningful step forward in advancing President Trump’s historic 20-Point Plan, which the Council fully endorsed in its entirety. This resolution establishes – for the first time – a real and viable pathway to peace and security in Gaza. The action today lays the foundation for a demilitarized, deradicalized, prosperous, and self-governing Gaza supported by broad regional participation," stated the spokesperson.
The U.S. emphasized that attention must now shift to implementing steps towards establishing a demilitarized and self-governed Gaza. "Now, we must turn to the hard work of achieving a demilitarized, deradicalized and self-governed Gaza. No one thought we would bring home all of the live hostages, and the United States is still working to bring home the remains of the final three hostages held by Hamas."
The statement also highlighted achievements related to ending conflict with commitments that exclude Hamas from future governance arrangements: "No one thought we could end the war with a commitment for zero Hamas involvement in the future of Gaza."
Acknowledging ongoing challenges, the spokesperson added: "The challenges in front of us are immense, but leaders don’t shrink from these challenges, they rise to the occasion."
The United States reaffirmed its intention to collaborate with Security Council members as well as regional partners to ensure swift implementation of this resolution. "The United States will continue to work closely in partnership with Security Council members, regional partners, and leaders on the ground to ensure rapid implementation of this resolution and to finally advance a future defined by peace, security, and dignity for Israelis and Palestinians alike."
