In response to the recent devastation caused by Super Typhoon Fung-wong (Uwan) and the earlier Typhoon Kalmaegi (Tino), the United States has announced an increase in emergency disaster assistance for the Philippines. The additional $1.5 million (Php87 million) brings the total U.S. contribution to $2.5 million (Php145 million). This support is aimed at aiding Philippine-led relief efforts, providing logistics, emergency shelter, water, sanitation resources, and supporting evacuation center management.
The relief comes as millions of Filipinos are coping with the aftermath of consecutive disasters, including a significant earthquake in Cebu that occurred in September. U.S. military personnel have been working alongside their Philippine counterparts to deliver family food packs and other essential supplies using U.S. Navy aircraft from Clark Air Base.
A spokesperson emphasized the close relationship between the two countries during times of crisis: "As millions of Filipinos face the challenges left by these overlapping disasters, including the Cebu earthquake in September, our continued rapid response stands as a testament to the depth of the enduring ties between the United States and the Philippines, especially in times of crisis."
The U.S. government’s assistance aims to help address urgent needs and support ongoing recovery efforts led by Philippine authorities.
