The United States and Greece have signed a joint declaration in Athens, emphasizing the link between economic security and national security. The agreement reflects both countries’ intention to work together on partnerships that enhance supply chain security, reduce dependency risks, and promote trusted technology systems.

The U.S.-Greece Economic Security Declaration was signed by Under Secretary of State for Economic Affairs Jacob Helberg, U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle, and Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Haris Theoharis. The declaration supports President Donald J. Trump’s approach to economic statecraft, which seeks peace and security through private investment and free enterprise.

Under Secretary Helberg stated: “American allies around the world are seeking to shore up the security of their supply chains while seizing the economic opportunities of the AI revolution.  American partners know that prosperity will flow through all levels of the AI supply chain.  As the birthplace of the AI revolution, America stands as an indispensable partner, ready to embrace its friends in the pursuit of a better tomorrow.  Through this landmark Declaration, the United States and Greece will pursue flagship projects that will define the AI economy for decades.”

U.S. Ambassador Guilfoyle said: “It is no coincidence that we chose to launch this important initiative to affirm our shared commitment to trusted technology and building economies based on innovation right here in Greece. It was in Athens that the intellectual seeds that made possible today’s AI revolution were first planted. The United States and Greece are proudly committed to ensuring that our supply chains — and ultimately the economies that sustain our communities — are safe and secure now and in the future.”

The declaration outlines several commitments from both nations:

- Strengthening reliable supply chains vital for economic growth.

- Advancing responsible development of trustworthy artificial intelligence systems.

- Encouraging private sector involvement in major projects aimed at creating quality jobs.

- Protecting sensitive technologies and infrastructure from inappropriate access or control by certain foreign countries.

- Coordinating actions against unfair trade practices such as state-backed overcapacity or dumping.

- Developing secure information networks including ICT systems, fiber-optic cables, and data centers.

- Supporting an open investment environment favorable for international trade.

Both countries plan to explore collaboration on key technology projects involving connectivity infrastructure, semiconductors, advanced manufacturing processes, logistics operations, mineral processing activities, and energy sectors.
