Josie Glabach, a contributor for Timcast News, has highlighted the significant increase in U.S. car insurance premiums for 2024-25. She said that these rates have become increasingly unmanageable for drivers, even when there are no changes to their driving records.

"One year of car insurance was being quoted at nearly $8,000/yr," said Glabach. "It was a 200% increase with no accidents. They tried to blame a single red light camera ticket. This is not sustainable."

Auto-insurance premiums in the United States are experiencing sharp rises due to various economic pressures and industry shifts. According to Investopedia, factors such as higher vehicle repair costs, increased claim severity, supply-chain disruptions, and elevated accident frequency have contributed to this upward trend. Inflation affecting parts and labor has also compelled insurers to adjust pricing strategies to maintain profitability. Although the pace of rate hikes may slow down, the overall upward trend is expected to continue.

According to AutoInsurance.com, the average full-coverage car insurance policy in the U.S. costs approximately $2,399 per year, while minimum-coverage policies average around $635 annually. These figures represent nationwide averages; however, actual costs can vary significantly depending on state regulations, driver profiles, and coverage levels.

Geographical differences also play a role in rate changes. For instance, The Zebra reports that the District of Columbia experienced an 81% increase in insurance premiums from 2023 to 2024. Nationally, data from ValuePenguin indicates average industry rate increases of approximately 12% in 2023, 16.5% in 2024, and a projected 7.5% increase in 2025.

Glabach is described as a Generation Y mother of three who moved from Massachusetts to Florida in 2022. Known by her moniker "The Red-headed Libertarian," she focuses on culture-war commentary and U.S. revolutionary-history topics while hosting Twitter Spaces dedicated to period-document-based discussions.
