The University of Oxford has launched Equinox, a new partnership that brings together more than 40 organizations from industry, local government, and academia. The initiative was officially launched in Oxford on November 10, 2025, by the Rt Hon Anneliese Dodds MP.
Equinox is designed to foster an environment where companies can grow, attract investment, and develop local talent. The partnership places particular emphasis on equitable access to opportunities and socially responsible innovation. One of its first actions is the creation of a NatWest Accelerator in Oxfordshire to provide specialized support and financial guidance for regional start-ups.
Professor Irene Tracey, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Oxford, stated: “Oxford University has always been a place where great and ground-breaking ideas begin – but our responsibility is to ensure they can develop, thrive and have impact here in our region. Equinox brings together the extraordinary talent, research and entrepreneurial drive of Oxfordshire to create a more connected, equitable innovation ecosystem where everyone benefits. By working in true partnership – across universities, business, government and communities – we can turn discovery into opportunity, and opportunity into shared prosperity. This is the power of Oxford’s innovation: generous service to society.”
In its initial year, Equinox will prioritize setting up an inward investment unit and strengthening collaboration between universities and industry in the region. It also plans to expand skills development through apprenticeships and training programs with the goal of ensuring that Oxfordshire’s reputation for scientific achievement leads to broader local economic benefits.
Robert Begbie, NatWest’s Commercial & Institutional CEO said: “This partnership marks a significant milestone in our Accelerator expansion strategy and a first-of-its-kind for Oxfordshire. Inclusive innovation ecosystems like Equinox are key to unlocking long-term regional prosperity, and we are proud to play our part.”
Since 2011, more than 225 companies have been created through Oxford University Innovation. Equinox builds on this foundation as part of the university’s commitment to using its research capabilities and networks to support both regional and national growth.
