A severe weather system is forecast to affect much of Brazil from November 7 to 9, 2025, according to a notice issued by the U.S. Mission to Brazil. The Brazilian National Institute of Meteorology has issued warnings for strong winds, dangerous storm surges, heavy rainfall, and possible flooding in coastal areas.

The alert covers several states, including Bahia, Pernambuco, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, and São Paulo. The highest alert level (red – grande perigo) has been declared for parts of Rio Grande do Sul. The second highest alert level (orange – perigo) applies to São Paulo and other regions.

Residents and travelers are advised to monitor local news sources for updates from authorities and meteorological agencies. They should seek secure shelter and avoid traveling through areas at risk of flooding such as low-lying zones, riverbanks, beaches, and other coastal locations. Driving through floodwaters or on flooded roads is discouraged due to potential dangers that may not be immediately visible.

The U.S. Mission also provided contact details for its embassy in Brasília as well as consulates in Recife, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Porto Alegre, Fortaleza, Manaus, and Salvador for citizens needing assistance.

Travelers are encouraged to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP), which helps them receive security messages and makes it easier for officials to locate them during emergencies.

Updates are also available via the mission's social media channels on Facebook and Twitter/X.
