The first F-35 Lightning II fighter jets have arrived at Florennes Air Base in Belgium. This event marks a step forward in Belgium’s efforts to strengthen its defense capabilities and meet NATO requirements.

A statement from the U.S. Embassy in Belgium said, "Together with our Belgian allies, we celebrate the arrival of Belgium’s first F-35 Lightning II fighter jets at Florennes Air Base. The arrival of the F-35s is a powerful demonstration of Belgium’s commitment to NATO and its determination to meet the alliance’s defense spending target of 5% of GDP by 2035. As founding members of NATO, the United States and Belgium share a deep commitment to peace and security."

Belgium has committed to increasing its defense spending as part of its obligations within NATO. The acquisition of the F-35s aligns with these goals and shows ongoing cooperation between Belgium and the United States on security matters.
