Mark Stroh began his role as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Denmark in June 2025.

Stroh is a career diplomat and member of the Senior Foreign Service, having joined the Department of State in 2003. His most recent assignment was as a Senior Advisor on Ukraine’s economic recovery at the Department of State. His previous roles include serving as U.S. Consul General in Erbil, Iraq; Team Leader for U.S. Embassy Kyiv’s external operations platform based in Rzeszow, Poland; Consul General in Karachi, Pakistan; Acting Assistant Secretary and Acting Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of Global Public Affairs; and Team Leader for the Syria Transition Assistance Response Team (START) Forward in northeastern Syria.

For his work in Syria, Stroh received both the State Department’s Ryan C. Crocker Award for Outstanding Leadership in Expeditionary Diplomacy and the Department of Defense’s Joint Civilian Service Commendation Award.

His overseas assignments have included postings to Kuwait City, Basra and Al-Hillah (Iraq), Riyadh (Saudi Arabia), Kabul (Afghanistan), Islamabad (Pakistan), and Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). He has also worked on various assignments in Washington with the National Security Council and for the Secretary of State.

Before entering diplomatic service, Stroh worked as a journalist for several daily and weekly publications including the Philadelphia Inquirer. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in History and Political Science from Randolph-Macon College and a Master’s degree in Journalism from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
