The U.S. Embassy in Kyiv has issued a security alert for all American citizens currently in Ukraine following recent Russian missile and drone strikes targeting critical civilian and energy infrastructure. The embassy warns that these attacks could cause power outages, loss of heating, and disruptions to municipal services throughout the country.
The advisory urges U.S. citizens to exercise increased caution, remain informed through Ukrainian government alerts about air attacks, and use a reliable air alert application on their mobile phones. Citizens are also reminded to comply with all government-imposed curfews and to promptly seek shelter when an air alert is announced.
“Due to recent attacks from Russian missiles and drones hitting Ukraine’s critical civilian and energy infrastructure, the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv urges U.S. citizens in Ukraine to exercise heightened caution. These attacks may result in power outages, loss of heating, and disruption of municipal services. All U.S. citizens should follow Ukrainian government alerts regarding air attacks and monitor a reliable ‘air alert’ app on your mobile phone. U.S. citizens should abide by all government curfews and quickly follow instructions and seek shelter during air alerts. The Department of State continues to advise U.S. citizens not to travel to Ukraine.”
The embassy recommends that Americans identify shelter locations ahead of time, keep reserves of water, food, medications, and other essential supplies on hand, prepare for possible temporary losses of electricity or heat, monitor local media for updates, and closely follow the instructions given by Ukrainian officials or first responders during emergencies.
