Defending champion Thammanoon Sriroj of Thailand leads the 2025 Fubon Senior Open after a strong performance in the second round at TGCC. Sriroj carded five birdies and one bogey for a score of 68, putting him at five under par for the tournament.
The improved weather allowed players to make significant gains, with eight eagles recorded during the day. Thai golfers dominated the top of the leaderboard, with Chawalit Plaphol close behind after an eagle and three birdies led to a 69, placing him two shots back at three under par. Last year’s runner-up, Prayad Marksaeng, is another stroke behind at two under.
Sriroj began on the 10th hole and faced challenges with his putting early but recovered on the back nine with four birdies. He credited his chances in the final round to his putting: "If I putt well in the final round tomorrow, I am confident I can win again." Sriroj’s eldest son “Boss” is acting as his caddie this week; together they have won more than ten championship trophies.
Plaphol noted his effective putting: "My putting is quite good today, and I did not make any 3-putts." Marksaeng started strongly but struggled around the greens later in his round and finished with a 72. He commented on course conditions: "The rough around the greens at the TGCC is quite tough, as players are most likely confronted with difficult lies."
Former champions Tsai Chi-huang of Taiwan and Kim Jong-duck of Korea are tied for fourth place after solid rounds that included an eagle from Kim. Tsai said he benefited from some fortunate shots using his pitching wedge and found judging distances challenging as winds increased later in the day.
Taiwan’s Chou Hung-nan had difficulties early when his tee shot became stuck in a tree, resulting in a double-bogey. He recovered to finish with a 74 and made a notable long putt to save par on his last hole.
In addition to the main competition, the super senior event began for players aged 65 or older. Defending champion Chung Chun-hsing and Chen Tsang-te both share the lead at two under par after Chung made an eagle at the 15th hole. Notably, Chung, Chen, and tournament co-founder Tony Hsieh all achieved scores equal to or better than their age—a milestone known as an “age shot.”
After two rounds of regular senior play, organizers selected 61 players to advance to Thursday’s final round. The super senior contest will also continue then. Spectators are invited to attend or watch live streaming coverage on Fubon’s official YouTube channel (https://pse.is/6kkeze) or via updates from Taiwan Senior Professional Golf Association's Facebook page (https://pse.is/6kkg9z).
