Hurricane Melissa is forecast to reach Bermuda as a Category 2 storm, with maximum sustained winds of 100 mph and significant rainfall expected to begin on Thursday evening, October 30. The storm is also anticipated to cause hazardous sea conditions and large swells in the area.
In response to the approaching hurricane, Bermuda's government has announced that the airport will close at 6:00 PM and the causeway will shut down at 10:00 PM on October 30. The airport is scheduled to reopen at noon on Friday, October 31, while the causeway may reopen in the morning depending on weather and road safety.
The U.S. Consulate in Hamilton stated it would remain open during regular hours on Thursday and plans to resume normal operations at 1:00 PM on Friday.
