U.S. Ambassador to Panama Kevin Marino Cabrera visited San Miguelito, engaging with local leaders and organizations to promote development and cooperation between the United States and Panama.
Ambassador Cabrera started his visit at Bonlac, Panama’s second-largest dairy processor. The company uses $6.5 million in U.S.-sourced ingredients, including powdered milk and butter cream, for its products.
He continued to Cristo Redentor Parish, where he was welcomed by Father Juan Sandoval. The parish is home to the Cristo Redentor sculpture, a bronze casting donated by the Archdiocese of Chicago and brought to Panama by the U.S. Navy in 1970. The site highlights ongoing cultural and spiritual connections between the two countries.
At San Miguelito’s Municipal Operations Center, Ambassador Cabrera met with officials to emphasize U.S. support for local efforts against organized crime and initiatives aimed at improving community safety.
During a stop at Casa Cultural de las 600, he spoke with young English-language learners participating in programs run by the Gabriel Lewis Galindo Foundation with support from the U.S. Embassy. He also visited Los Andes #2 Sports Complex, distributing backpacks donated by Southcom to students and meeting with local legislators to discuss how sports can foster leadership skills and community development.
The ambassador concluded his visit at Lago de Los Andes alongside municipal councilors and a representative from ReGreen, a Florida-based company. They discussed sustainable waste management solutions as part of efforts to improve public health and environmental conditions in Panama’s metropolitan area.
“I was proud to spend the day in San Miguelito, meeting the kind and hardworking people who are shaping their community’s future,” said Ambassador Cabrera. “From education and public safety to clean city initiatives, the United States is committed to being a strong partner. President Trump’s vision is clear: deeper cooperation between our nations leads to shared prosperity – and visits like this remind us what’s possible when we work together.”
