Protests have erupted in several areas of Cameroon following the announcement of the official results of the presidential election held on October 12, 2025. The Cameroonian Constitutional Council declared President Paul Biya as the winner on October 27, prompting demonstrations in different parts of the country. Some protests have involved property damage.

Cameroonian law enforcement has responded to these incidents using measures such as teargas, water cannons, and firearms. According to a security alert from the U.S. Embassy in Yaoundé, there is no indication that U.S. citizens have been targeted during these events.

The embassy has advised American citizens in Cameroon to avoid protest areas and shelter in place until the situation stabilizes. Additional recommendations include staying away from large gatherings and reviewing personal security plans.

For assistance, U.S. citizens can contact American Citizens Services at +237-222-51400 or +237-222-20150 or email YaoundeACS@state.gov. More information is available on the U.S. Embassy in Cameroon website and through resources like the Cameroon Country Information page. The embassy also encourages enrollment in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) for updates and following their official Twitter and Facebook accounts for further guidance.
