Organizers of a demonstration against U.S. foreign policy in Kuala Lumpur have changed the protest location to Merdeka Square. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 26, 2025. Previously, the demonstration was planned for the Ampang Park train station near the Kuala Lumpur City Center neighborhood.

The U.S. Embassy in Kuala Lumpur has advised that demonstrations may continue at Merdeka Square throughout the day and recommends that U.S. citizens monitor local media for updates.

"There is no indication at this time that these demonstrations will turn violent, but as with any large gathering, tensions can escalate unexpectedly and with little warning. U.S. citizens should exercise caution and avoid protest areas. Please remember that it is illegal for non-Malaysians to participate in demonstrations in Malaysia," stated the Embassy.

U.S. citizens are encouraged to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive security alerts from the Embassy and be aware of their surroundings during such events.

For assistance, individuals can contact the U.S. Embassy Kuala Lumpur by phone or email, or visit their official website at https://my.usembassy.gov/. The State Department’s Consular Affairs division can also be reached for further support.

Actions recommended by the Embassy include avoiding demonstrations and crowds, monitoring local news sources for developments, and remaining alert to changes in one’s environment.
