Christine J. Toretti has been confirmed as the U.S. Ambassador to Sweden. She was nominated by President Trump in January 2025 and received Senate confirmation in September 2025.
Toretti previously led S.W. Jack Drilling Company as Chairman and CEO, overseeing what was once the largest land-based natural gas drilling company in the United States. She also served as Chairman of S&T Bank, a publicly traded community bank headquartered in Pennsylvania.
Her career has included efforts to support women’s advancement in various fields, including business, politics, and the arts. Toretti has founded several initiatives aimed at helping women succeed in these areas.
Her leadership roles have included serving as chair of The Andy Warhol Museum, trustee of The Carnegie, director of International Medical Corps, and director of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Leadership Advisory Board.
In recognition of her work to advance women, Toretti received the Athena International Global Award, which has been awarded to only sixty individuals worldwide.
