The U.S. Embassy in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago has issued a security alert advising individuals to avoid all U.S. government facilities in the country through the upcoming holiday weekend due to an increased state of alert.
According to the statement, "Due to a heightened state of alert, please avoid and refrain from visiting all U.S. Government facilities in Trinidad and Tobago through the holiday weekend."
The embassy also provided several recommendations for personal safety, including being aware of one's surroundings, monitoring reputable news sources, ensuring travel documents are valid for those planning travel to the United States, and reporting any suspicious activity to local authorities.
U.S. citizens are encouraged to inform friends and family about signing up for the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) at step.state.gov so they can receive alerts and updates.
