UBS has appointed Daniele Magazzeni as its Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer, a move aimed at strengthening the bank’s artificial intelligence strategy and encouraging greater use of new technologies. Magazzeni, who previously served as Chief Analytics Officer for J.P. Morgan’s EMEA region and its Commercial and Investment Bank, will join UBS effective January 1, 2026. He will be based in London and report to Mike Dargan, Group Chief Operations and Technology Officer.

Magazzeni brings experience from both the finance sector and academia. Before joining J.P. Morgan, he was an Associate Professor of Artificial Intelligence at King’s College London. At his previous role, Magazzeni focused on expanding AI capabilities, promoting innovation, and ensuring strong AI governance across banking operations.

At UBS, Magazzeni will lead the firm’s AI strategy with an emphasis on improving client experiences and increasing employee productivity through technology-driven changes. He will also oversee the deployment of AI-powered tools throughout the organization while maintaining consistent standards and building a robust technological foundation.

Mike Dargan commented on the appointment: “Artificial intelligence is a top priority for UBS. I am delighted to welcome Daniele with his experience in embedding AI into business processes, driving measurable efficiency improvements and delivering commercial benefits. As Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer he will further optimize our use of traditional, generative and agentic AI capabilities to transform our end-to-end operations and deliver cutting-edge solutions to our clients.”

Earlier this year, UBS introduced several major AI initiatives known as Big Rocks that are intended to improve efficiency across the firm’s systems and processes. The bank reports having over 300 active AI use cases currently in place. Tools such as M365 Copilot and an internal assistant named Red are being rolled out to all employees.

For further information or inquiries regarding this appointment or UBS’s ongoing technology initiatives, contacts are available for investors or media representatives in Switzerland, the UK, Americas, or Asia-Pacific regions.
