Facebook has introduced a new feature aimed at making it easier for users to share photos and videos. The feature, which is opt-in, uses artificial intelligence to suggest notable photos and videos from a user's camera roll. It then creates collages and edits that can be shared on Facebook and Messenger.
According to Facebook, the feature is designed to help users who may not share content because they feel their photos or videos are not worth sharing or because they lack the time to create something unique. "With your permission and the help of AI, our new feature enables Facebook to automatically surface hidden gems – those memorable moments that get lost among screenshots, receipts, and random snaps – and edit them to save or share," the company stated.
The feature enhances selected photos, offers creative edits, and creates collages and videos to help users connect with friends and family. Facebook emphasized that no design skills are needed, as the feature handles the editing process. "All suggestions are private to you and you decide what to share, when to share, and with whom. We don’t use media from your camera roll to improve AI at Meta, unless you choose to edit this media with our AI tools, or share. Head to the Meta Privacy Policy to learn more," the company said.
The new option is now available to users in the United States and Canada. Sharing recommendations currently appear in Stories and Feed, and additional ready-to-share content can be found in the Memories section of Facebook. Users can manage or disable the feature at any time through their Facebook camera roll settings. Facebook also plans to test the feature in more countries in the coming months.
