Instagram has introduced new Diwali-themed effects for its users, aiming to help people celebrate the festival by enhancing their photos and videos. The new features are available in Instagram Stories and in the Edits app, allowing users to apply special visual effects inspired by Diwali traditions.
With the Restyle feature, users can choose from three effects for images—‘Fireworks’, ‘Diyas’, and ‘Rangoli’—and three for videos—‘Lanterns’, ‘Marigold’, and ‘Rangoli’. These options are designed to bring elements of Diwali’s colors and vibrancy into digital content. The effects are available for a limited period, until October 29, and can be accessed not only in India but also in countries such as the United States, Canada, Singapore, and Australia.
Instructions provided by Instagram explain that to use Restyle on Stories, users need to select an image or video, tap the Restyle icon (paintbrush), browse through the available Diwali effects, and then share their story. For videos in the Edits app, the process involves creating a new project, choosing a video, selecting Restyle from the icons at the bottom of the screen, picking a Diwali effect under the ‘Diwali’ header, exporting, and posting.
In addition to these updates, Meta announced that users of Ray-Ban Meta glasses can also apply Diwali-inspired styles to their photos using Meta AI. By saying “Hey Meta, Restyle This,” wearers can have their captures reimagined with festive lights, fireworks, or rangoli designs. These restyled images can be viewed on the Meta AI app.
The initiative is part of Instagram’s efforts under Meta to provide seasonal content tools for its global user base during significant cultural events.
