The Global Sovereign Debt Roundtable (GSDR) convened on October 15, 2025, in Washington, D.C., to assess ongoing efforts aimed at improving the processes and timelines for sovereign debt restructuring. The meeting also focused on strategies to address debt vulnerabilities and set priorities for future work.
Following the meeting, a joint statement was released by Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, Ajay Banga, President of the World Bank Group, and Enoch Godongwana, Finance Minister of South Africa and G20 Presidency. The statement included the GSDR 5th Cochairs Report as well as a compilation of technical issues discussed by the group to date.
The GSDR is a platform that brings together debtor countries with both official and private creditors. Its main goal is to foster a shared understanding among stakeholders about challenges related to debt sustainability and restructuring, as well as to identify solutions for these issues.
