Intense fighting has been reported along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, particularly in the Spin Boldak area of Kandahar, between October 11 and 15. According to multiple media sources, the conflict has involved artillery exchanges and airstrikes. Several major border crossings have been temporarily closed as a result of the violence. Additionally, there have been reports of explosions in Kabul on October 15.

A 48-hour ceasefire was announced on October 15 at 5:30 pm local time, but authorities warn that the situation remains unstable.

The U.S. Mission to Afghanistan has emphasized the significant dangers for anyone remaining in or traveling to Afghanistan. "These developments underscore the extreme risk of remaining in or traveling to Afghanistan," stated the mission.

The travel advisory for Afghanistan remains at level 4 ("Do Not Travel"), citing risks including civil unrest, crime, terrorism, wrongful detention, kidnapping, and limited health facilities. The U.S. government is not able to provide routine or emergency consular services to citizens in Afghanistan following the suspension of operations at its embassy in Kabul in 2021.

U.S. citizens are advised not to travel to Afghanistan and those currently present are urged to make plans to leave. The mission also recommends avoiding all border areas with Pakistan, monitoring local media for updates, maintaining a personal security plan, and keeping a low profile.

For more information about safety conditions in Afghanistan, individuals can consult the Country Information Page provided by the U.S. Department of State.
