The Global Sovereign Debt Roundtable (GSDR) convened in Washington, D.C. to assess ongoing efforts to improve sovereign debt restructuring and address vulnerabilities in debt management. The meeting included participants from debtor nations, official institutions, and private creditors, all aiming to enhance understanding and collaboration on debt sustainability and restructuring issues.

Following the meeting, International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, World Bank Group President Ajay Banga, and South Africa's Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana, who currently holds the G20 Presidency, released the GSDR 5th Cochairs Report. They also provided a summary of the technical matters discussed by the GSDR.

The GSDR serves as a platform for key stakeholders to discuss and identify ways to address challenges in sovereign debt restructuring. According to the organizers, "The GSDR brings together debtor countries and official and private creditors with the objective to build common understanding among key stakeholders on debt sustainability and debt restructuring challenges, and ways to address them."

The roundtable also identified priority areas for future work, aiming to streamline processes and improve outcomes for countries facing debt distress.
