The U.S. Embassy in Port Moresby has announced it will hold a consular outreach event in Lapilo, Eastern Highlands Province, on November 25, 2025. During the visit, consular staff will provide services such as U.S. passport applications and renewals, Consular Reports of Birth Abroad (CRBA), and notarial services on a case-by-case basis.

U.S. citizens who are affiliated with the Summer Institute of Linguistics (SIL) or New Tribes Mission have been advised to coordinate appointments through their HR managers. Those not associated with either organization should schedule an appointment by emailing ConsularPortMoresby@state.gov before noon on Friday, November 21. The email should include the subject line “E77 – ACS – REMOTE APPOINTMENT LAPILO – FULL NAME,” along with personal details and information about the requested service.

Applicants seeking notarial services must submit questions or documents for review ahead of time; walk-ins for these services will not be accepted.

All passport and CRBA fees must be paid online prior to the appointment, and applicants need to bring proof of payment when submitting their applications. Specific eligibility criteria apply for using the online payment system depending on whether applicants are renewing adult passports (using Form DS-82) or applying for new ones (using Form DS-11).

The embassy emphasized that those applying for passports or CRBAs during this outreach must arrange their own document return from Port Moresby—either through in-person pickup or by using an international courier service such as DHL.

Fees for consular services vary: $130 USD for adult passport renewals, $165 USD for first-time adult passports, $135 USD for minor passport renewals, and $235 USD combined fee for a CRBA and first passport application.

Applicants are encouraged to email copies of relevant documents in advance and clarify how they plan to pay fees and retrieve approved documents once processed.

Assistance with voter materials is also available; completed voting materials bearing sufficient U.S. postage can be submitted during the visit. Further details about these services can be found on the embassy’s website.
